For me, the
greatest Chilean of all time is Víctor Jara. He was a singer-songwriter, musician,
performance’s university teacher, theatre director, political activist and Comunism
Party’s militant in full Popular Unity.
Victor Jara
was born in a poor rural family, for this reason he left the school and he
started to work. When his mother died, his family was dissolved and he joined
at Seminary. 2 years later, he left the Seminary and joined at Military
Service. When he was 21 years joined at a theatre company and later started to
study Performance at University of Chile. In that time, he didn’t have where to
live and he slept in the street.
He was an
important piece in the national artistic development, mainly in theatre and
music but above all he was a man deeply engaged with social and political
causes, and his artistic work ever was orientated to that. He was a tireless
social fighter, living himself many social injustices.
Really, I would not know what to ask him; simply
I admire him, his spirit and strength, even his last moments because he was tortured
and murdered, but before to die he wrote a last poem about that national situation.
Victor Jara was burn with cigarillos, hit with
a revolver in his hands until broke its. He is died on September, 16th,
5 days later of coup d'état, and his body was found on September, 19th
with 44 impacts of bullet. The guilty soldiers still today is free.
But Victor Jara still live!
I admire him!. I agree with you and I think that I like his spirit and strenght.
